AFTER LONDON to release debut album with No Distance Records

Alternative rock band ‘AFTER LONDON’ is set to release debut album ‘antimatter’ on Friday July 4.

The 10-track record takes in influences from Patti Smith, Deftones, and Rage Against The Machine as it blends grunge, rock and electronica to deliver a truly unique sound.

The album is a result of a 1 year writing process, which saw the four-piece deliberately "shut out the noise" and write unaffected by external pressures.

To truly find isolation, the band — which is made up of siblings Frank, Byron and Will, joined by their best mate Jake — wrote 'antimatter' in Dorset and then proceeded to record and produce the album themselves in a make-shift studio in the French countryside.

"The relentless pattern of ‘write single, release, repeat’ started to run us dry. We owed it to ourselves to write an album. So we did what up and coming bands are told not to do: we went away for a while. It took us on a big and beautiful DIY journey. Once we had written the album, we set aside 1 week and were pulling 18 hour days to engineer and record the album. I think you can feel the adrenaline and intensity in the record," said Byron.

Overlaying the music are the raw and confrontational lyrics delivered by Frank Ward, which pulls no punches as she takes on themes of grief, anxiety, hope and love.

“Lyrically and musically, antimatter is raw and confrontational to its core. The album explores the concept of ‘what comes next after dystopia?’. It is a response to living in an age of anxiety and exploitation; confronted by the need to live in joy and with hope,” said Frank.

In true DIY spirit, the band not only recorded and produced ‘antimatter’ themselves — with Jake designing the album artwork — they also funded the pressing of a limited run of vinyl copies of the album.

After seeing them perform at a show in April, No Distance Records founder Owen Bennett was keen to offer any help he could in getting the band’s music out to the public, and so a joint release deal was struck which will see the vinyl stocked in record shops including the legendary Rough Trade.

Owen said: “When I first saw AFTER LONDON live I could not believe what I was witnessing. They were quite simply the best band I had seen in years and the reaction from the crowd said it all. I offered to help with distributing the record because I knew they were something special. This is all their work and they deserve all the plaudits they are going to get. I’m just grateful that No Distance Records can help in some small way on what is going to be a stratospheric journey.”

The album will be available to pre-order from 23 May, with the official release being marked by a special show at London’s iconic Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney on Saturday July 5.
